History

Originally registered on 29th November 1990 as a Vauxhall Fleet Management car in Luton, Bedfordshire, this GTE 16V was finished in the uncommon Rembrandt Silver. The car featured GM's futuristic Liquid Crystal Display dashboard, allowing drivers to watch the revs climb on its magnificent 2-litre DOHC 16-valve 'red top' engine, a characterful, rev-hungry unit that gave the GTE its appealingly raucous personality.

After serving owners across Kent, Dorset, County Durham and Bedfordshire, the car found its way to Lee Proctor, a former Vauxhall employee and bodyshop proprietor, in March 2013. Despite covering 125,000 miles and arriving in poor condition, Lee embarked on an ambitious three-year nut-and-bolt restoration to concours standard, using as many new old stock original parts as possible. The rebuild returned the car to original specification, with the addition of a retrimmed Astra Champion leather interior.

In November 2020, the beautifully restored GTE found a new home with Derbyshire enthusiast Clive Emery, a Mk2 Astra Owners Club member, who has added original equipment finishing touches and regularly takes the car to classic events.
