History

First registered on 15th February 1973 by Phil Read Ltd, a Chrysler main dealer in Torquay, this particular Avenger has led a remarkably pampered life. Its original owner, Mr T. A. Elliot, paid £1,453.27 for the privilege, a sum that included the then-mandatory extras of seatbelts and number plates, and cherished the car for over three decades, accumulating just 30,687 miles before selling it in 2005.

The Avenger then passed to local collector Nick Davidson, who kept it carefully dry stored without ever putting it back on the road. In 2016, motor trade veteran Pat Hawkins acquired this exceptional example and set about a sympathetic recommissioning. He refreshed the engine, repainted the engine bay, fitted a new clutch and re-chromed the front bumpers, all whilst preserving the car's remarkable originality. The mileage today stands at just 31,453.

In November 2023, Pat created the County Classics Car Museum in the heart of Taunton, with the grand opening hosted by television personality Richard Hammond. The Avenger Tiger MkI was driven to its new home that day and has since become one of the museum's most admired exhibits, a testament to the enduring appeal of this rare British performance saloon.
