History

This remarkable RS2000 has a fascinating provenance that spans nearly five decades. First registered on 13th January 1976, it was purchased by Mike Collins, then serving with RAF personnel at RAF Dishforth in North Yorkshire, from Polar Service Garage, a Ford RS dealership in Barnsley. After passing through ten owners, the car found its forever home with renowned North Wales-based Ford enthusiast Aled Hopwood in June 1996.

When Aled acquired the RS2000, it had covered 73,000 miles and was in excellent condition. He put the car to spirited use, taking it on several European tours, North Wales Snowdonia Tours, and Lakes Tours. The car's significance was recognised when it was featured extensively in Dan Williamson's authoritative book 'Factory-Original Sporting Mk2 Escorts', with detailed photography by Simon Clay showcased throughout the RS2000 chapter. It also graced the pages of Classic Ford Magazine.

In 2021, Aled undertook a meticulous nut-and-bolt restoration to return the car to as-new condition. The underside was restored to its original dove grey paint specification before the entire car received a professional respray, carefully retaining all original panels and the distinctive Beta Cloth interior. The beautifully restored RS2000 made its debut at the 2021 NEC Classic Motor Show, where Aled proudly displayed the fruits of his dedication to preserving this rare piece of Ford RS heritage.
