History
The Capri modelled represents a fascinating piece of automotive history, registered on the very first day of the K registration suffix in August 1971. Its first owner specified an unusual colour scheme of Glacier Blue with Marquis upholstery, a combination Ford only offered for one year, along with the GT and XLR option packs. The XLR pack added distinctive features including the matt black bonnet, spot lamps and Rostyle wheels. She cherished the car and its characterful 1599cc Kent Crossflow engine, the same power unit found in contemporary Escort Mexicos, keeping it for an impressive 22 years until 1993.
The car passed through several hands before being discovered as a restoration project in 2004 by Berkshire-based Capri enthusiast Nick Campbell, who paid £400 for it in High Wycombe. Campbell was drawn to this particular car because his first Capri had been in this exact specification. After acquiring the necessary parts and space, he began a meticulous restoration in 2009 that would span six years. The bodyshell required surprisingly little metalwork, and Campbell carefully restored it to its original Glacier Blue colour and specification, making subtle improvements to the brakes and suspension along the way. The car returned to the road in 2016 and was featured in Retro Ford magazine in 2017, celebrating its remarkable journey from first day registration to cherished survivor.
